Welcome to the August 2025 news update for WARSURGE.
Very soon we shall have the first v1.9 update for the WARSURGE App. This is a complete rewrite of the ‘front end’ of the app, which will allow us to do more for when v2 is ready along with a number of visual changes. We’ve had to make a rush of the initial v1.9 update due to new Google Play requirements*, but we’re not about to launch something with major errors in it. That said, we expect a few bugs and visual issues, so we would request not too many bug reports on obvious issues until after we do the following update, which hopefully won’t be too much later. When the update is very close, there will be an announcement where I will recommend doing a data backup.
*If we don’t meet the Google Play deadline by the start of September it’s not a serious issue for existing players. All Google will do is take the two Warsurge Apps off the store; they won’t stop existing players from using the app. Still, we won’t be able to welcome new players properly until it is addressed.
Regarding new players, we’ve spent some time pondering the ‘recruit-a-friend’ idea that has been discussed on the Discord server a while back, and we’ve come up with a system that we will introduce after patch 1.9: the Warsurge Ambassador program.
The main goal of the Ambassador system is to encourage players to share their Warsurge battles and hobby content on Reddit. There will be a form on the Warsurge website where people can link their posts and by doing so, they can accumulate Ambassador Credits, which can be used to buy items from the reward shop. When it is up on the website, there will be a list of subreddits which we accept, and this will cover both physical and digital gaming (such as Tabletop Simulator).
The Ambassador Reward shop will have a variety of goods you can purchase. Lifetime App vouchers, Digital Rulebooks, official STLs and some belonging to affiliates. There will also be some exclusive items such as a Lore compilation book (with exclusive story not in the rulebook: “The Axis and the Beast”), art and photographic wallpapers, and yet to be confirmed, but possibly e-vouchers from a broad range of shops (if this goes ahead, it would only be available for USA, Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand).
If you want to start getting ready for being a Warsurge Ambassador, then make a Reddit account and start building up ‘karma’ so you can post in various subreddits: https://www.reddit.com/
We have over ten new Mods on the way. With so many on the list (now approaching forty), we will update the print-friendly document to sort Mods into groups. Several of these are marked as 2.0, which long term are planned to become official rules. Among the new Mods are new Attack Dice charts (and alternative Attack Dice formulas) for both D6 and D10, Night Combat, Transport and Passenger rules (especially with regard to casualties) and expanded terrain rules.
We are up to our 12th Bounty! It’s been a whole year’s worth – how the time flies. This month’s Bounty is inspired by the artwork currently on the header of the Bounty download page, which we have called: Jellopires. These three bio weapons have escaped a secret laboratory and made their home in the nearby eco system. Vampiric in nature, they seem to prefer surrounding their prey and then feeding while their victim is still alive.
