June 2022 News

Welcome to the June 2022 news update for WARSURGE.

In the app department, we are at the final stages of testing before releasing the next update. There are a lot of changes on the way, including the anticipated ‘Print Roster’ feature, three new perk families, many new perks, clarifications, a notable adjustment to point costs among other improvements. When the update is released, an extensive list of changes will be available to read on the website and announced on social media.

The new Warsurge update will also bring two changes to the core rules. The first one is that Difficult Ground will reduce unit movement by 50% (half) instead of 33% (third). This makes difficult ground easier to calculate, and traversing such surfaces more of a hindrance (and also brings more value to some Movement Perks).

The second change is in regard to targeting enemies that involve a Melee. If you do the following, you will get a penalty:

1) Targeting into a Melee: Units that Target an enemy in a Melee with a friendly Unit suffer a -1 Dice Modifier to Attack Dice, unless they are engaged in the same Melee.

2) Targeting out of a Melee: Units in a Melee that Target an enemy who is not engaged with them in a Melee suffer a -1 Dice Modifier to Attack Dice.

In layman’s terms, it is harder to hit enemies that are fighting friendly units if you are not in the Melee, and if you’re in a Melee, it’s harder to hit enemies that are outside of it. These modifiers can stack with each other and also stack with Weapon Type penalties. On the upside, there are new perks in the next update that can remove these effects (however, there are also perks to make this effect even worse, or failed attacks hitting friendly units instead!).

As mentioned in the previous month’s news, there will be updates to Perk descriptions. You will be able to read explanations of the activation terms in each Perk itself. For example, if a Perk says ‘Mastery Test’ at the top of a Perk’s description, then after the Perk’s description it will provide details of what Mastery Test means and/or requires a player to do.

The Print Roster feature will generate a PDF onto your device that you can save and/or print. This will be available in the fourth tab (under PRINT) when designing a Roster.

The printed rulebook is nearly ready for test prints in English. Portuguese (Brazil) is going to be added as an additional language for the Kickstarter.

If you haven’t done so already, you can sign up for the rulebook Kickstarter. By doing so, you will be notified when the Kickstarter is launched. Please check it out if you haven’t looked into it yet.
