May 2022 News

Welcome to the May 2022 news update for WARSURGE.

In the app department, we are implementing upgrades for Perk descriptions. You will be able to read explanations of the activation requirements in each Perk itself. For example, if a Perk says it has ‘Limited Use (1)’ at the top of the description, under the Perk’s description it will provide details of what it means.

Print Roster function is almost ready; it is awaiting a final test run after implementing the updates to Perks. The next step will be additional premade Factions built into the app, so that players may have a variety of Units ready to go, or a foundation from which to design their own forces.

On the Rulebook and Kickstarter front, the Campaign system for the Rulebook has been drafted. Let’s have a glance at some details about this exciting new way to play.

The Campaign system has three different campaign styles: Linear, Pathway and Map. It also includes a ‘Battle Generator’, containing 24 Missions to play.

Linear Campaigns are a series of games where the Point Limit steadily grows. Players must expand on their existing army as the campaign progresses. These are great for building up ‘slow grow’ armies.

Pathway Campaigns are a series of battles that branch out into a variety of options, where the winner chooses the next path and consequentially, the next battle. Battles can vary greatly, where the Point Limit could be more, less or the same. The playstyle can be different between each game as well.

Map Campaigns are the most involved of the campaign systems. It has rules for creating maps, conquering land, constructing buildings, purchasing strategies for upcoming battles and expanding the size of your army. In addition, there are dozens of mods to further customise the campaign, making it virtually unlimited in terms of world building and creativity.

The Battle Generator is wholesome content in of itself, even without the other campaign styles and features. The 24 missions contain a variety of objectives and scenarios, but have a heavy focus on 1 v 1 games where there is an ‘attacker’ and ‘defender’; particularly useful for playing map campaigns. The strategy that a player chooses before playing on the tabletop influences the Battle Generator’s result.

The campaign system will be initially available in the printed rulebook! If you haven’t done so already, you can sign up for the rulebook Kickstarter. By doing so, you will be notified when the Kickstarter is launched. Please check it out if you haven’t looked into it yet.

Please share this with your wargaming friends and players who’ve been waiting for a Warsurge Rulebook! Share it with all your wargaming friends; tell them about the Warsurge system and how it can enrich their tabletop gaming experience.
